Michelle Jager (b. 1962) is a Dutch contemporary figurativeartist who lives and works in New York. She is currently studying with theRoyal Drawing School in London.
Her work is autobiographical, referencing both earlier art,especially art from the Dutch Golden Age with its focus on scenes from dailylife and portraiture, and art from more contemporary painters such as LucianFreud, Alice Neel and Paula Rego.
During her year at the Royal Drawing School, Michelle becamemore and more interested in combining the autobiographical with stories fromliterature, poems and mythology as a way of expressing and communicating herviews on motherhood, family and society.
Her preferred mediums are oil paint and charcoal, which sheuses in sensitive yet bold and expressive manner.
